Since the restart of nuclear power approval at the end of last year, China's nuclear power construction has accelerated again. On March 5, the National Development and Reform Commission submitted a draft report on the 2013 National Economic and Social Development Plan (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"), stating that 3.24 million kilowatts of new nuclear power installed capacity are expected to be added this year.

The Zaobao reporter learned yesterday that there may be 9 nuclear power units in China this year, and 8 of them are very likely to start construction this year. This number is double the 4 units started in 2012. At present, the scale of nuclear power under construction in China accounts for about 40% of the world.

Under the pressure of haze siege, nuclear power, as a clean energy, has a considerable advantage over coal power, which currently accounts for more than 80% of China's electricity. In addition, nuclear power has almost no carbon emissions, which is also meaningful for China's emission reduction.

The above-mentioned "new 3.24 million kilowatts" means that China's installed nuclear power capacity will increase by 20% in 2013. Considering that the construction period of nuclear power is about five years, this year's growth actually reflects the construction of nuclear power in China in the past few years.
