After hydropower, thermal power and wind power, China's nuclear power technology is moving towards Africa. Recently, China's nuclear power "going global" has made new progress. China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) and the Nuclear Power Bureau of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of Kenya formally signed a memorandum of understanding on Kenya's nuclear power development cooperation at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base in China. According to the memorandum of understanding, CGN and the Kenya Nuclear Power Authority will carry out comprehensive cooperation in Kenya's nuclear power development and capacity building based on the "Hualong One" technology and its improved technology, including research and development, construction, operation, fuel supply, nuclear safety, nuclear security, Nuclear waste management and other fields.

"this is a very important partnership on the road to Kenya's nuclear power program," said Ochilo ayako, executive chairman of the Kenya Nuclear Power Authority." An official from the Kenya Nuclear Power Authority told reporters that the signing of this memorandum "has strongly promoted Kenya's 2025 nuclear power plan". According to Kenya's nuclear power development plan, Kenya plans to build the country's first 1000 MW nuclear power plant by 2025, and plans to build four million kilowatt nuclear power units in four phases by 2033. The Kenya Nuclear Power Authority said it wants to make "nuclear power an important part of Kenya's energy production".

Kenya is an important foothold of "the belt and road initiative" construction in Africa. The signing of a memorandum of understanding between China General Nuclear Power and the Kenya Nuclear Power Administration means that China's nuclear power has taken another key step in "entering Africa" and accelerated the process of China's nuclear power technology and equipment "going out.

In fact, not only in Kenya, Chinese nuclear power companies are also competing for the South African nuclear power market. Last November, China and South Africa signed a framework agreement on nuclear power cooperation. According to South Africa's "Integrated Resource Planning 2010-2030", South Africa plans to build three nuclear power plants with a total installed capacity of 9.6 million kilowatts by 2030. It is expected to buy six to eight reactors for a total amount of 1 trillion rand (about 473 billion yuan) to strengthen the country's power production capacity. At present, South Africa is the only country in Africa that has nuclear power plants, but nuclear power accounts for only 5% of its total power generation. In the future, nuclear power will become the key to solving South Africa's power supply problem. China, France, Russia, South Korea and the United States are all competing for South Africa's largest single purchase contract.

In July this year, the South African government issued a tender statement and launched the international bidding process for nuclear power projects. Representing China in the competition is the CAP1400 pressurized water reactor nuclear power unit under the State Power Investment Group. This is currently the third-generation nuclear power technology with the largest power in China and independent intellectual property rights, and it is also one of the most powerful nuclear power technologies in the world. State Power Investment will bid jointly with CGN to compete with international nuclear power giants.

Clayton Hazwein, a researcher at the Institute of China and Africa in Southern Africa, told our reporter that China's annual power generation has ranked first in the world, and its installed capacity has also ranked first in the world. It can be said that China has accumulated a lot of power plant construction. Technical experience. He said that he is very happy to see China's nuclear power technology enter Africa, because for South Africa and even southern Africa, electricity restricts economic development. China has abundant capital and increasingly perfect nuclear power technology. Africa needs a power development plan. This kind of cooperation is very potential. "The entry of Chinese technology into Africa is at the right time, which will help African countries solve the power dilemma, promote economic development, and tap Africa's potential and future." Hazvene said.
