Great Wisdom Asdaq News Agency, June 26, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences released the ''China Eco-City Construction and Development Report (2014) ''on Thursday, pointing out that China's hydropower development is becoming more and more difficult, and it is recommended to vigorously develop nuclear power and restart as soon as possible Inland nuclear power plants to reduce the number of thermal power.

The report pointed out that in 2012, my country's primary energy consumption was 3.62 billion tons of standard coal, which consumed 20% of the world's energy. The energy consumption per unit of GDP was 2.5 times the world average, 3.3 times that of the United States, and 7 times that of Japan. Higher than developing countries such as Brazil and Mexico. China only generates 14000 yuan of GDP for every ton of standard coal consumed, while the global average is 25000 yuan of GDP for every ton of standard coal consumed, 31000 yuan of GDP for the United States and 50000 yuan of GDP for Japan.

In China's energy consumption structure, coal accounts for 68.5 per cent, oil for 17.7 per cent, hydropower for 7.1 per cent, natural gas for 4.7 per cent, nuclear energy for 0.8 per cent and others for 1.2 per cent. To achieve haze control and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, China must reduce coal consumption from the source, especially the consumption of high sulfur and low calorific value coal.

In 2012, China consumed nearly half of the world's coal, while thermal power burned half of the country's coal. In terms of hydropower development, the total amount of hydropower that China can develop is about 0.5 billion kilowatts. At present, about 0.23 billion kilowatts have been developed. The development is becoming more and more difficult, and it is also facing problems such as ecological environmental protection and immigration. It is recommended to vigorously develop nuclear power, restart inland nuclear power plants as soon as possible, and reduce the amount of thermal power.

Energy consumption per unit of GDP refers to the energy consumed by a country (region) in a certain period of time. Huangshan City, Shenzhen City and Beijing are among the top three in the comprehensive energy consumption per unit GDP of China's 116 eco-cities.
