"China Business News" learned exclusively from relevant authoritative channels on the 25th that the National Development and Reform Commission stated at a meeting held on the 24th that it would speed up the approval of a batch of nuclear power projects.

Prior to this, the central government has repeatedly reiterated and strengthened the necessity of "restarting coastal nuclear power in due course.

The most recent one was at the sixth meeting of the Central Finance and Economics Leading Group held on June 13. General Secretary Xi Jinping requested that under the premise of adopting the highest international safety standards and ensuring safety, the construction of new nuclear power projects in the eastern coastal areas should be launched.

A number of insiders of Chinese nuclear power companies have previously told this newspaper that the second phase of Hongyanhe in Dalian, Liaoning, the first phase of Xudabao in Huludao, Liaoning, the second phase of Haiyang in Shandong, the second phase of Sanmen in Zhejiang, the first phase of Lufeng in Guangdong and the demonstration project in Rongcheng in Shandong will be approved by the National Development and Reform Commission.

The above nuclear power projects have a total of 12 units, with a total installed capacity of about 15 million kilowatts. This is almost equivalent to the total installed capacity of nuclear power units currently in commercial operation in China. Zhang Huazhu, chairman of the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association, said in May this year that China's installed nuclear power capacity is 17.01 million kilowatts.

A senior nuclear power source told this newspaper that the goal of approving 12 nuclear power units is clear and realistic.

According to the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan for Energy Development", by the end of 2020, China's installed nuclear power capacity under construction and under construction will reach 88 million kilowatts. As of the end of March 2014, China's installed nuclear power capacity under construction and under construction is about 48.7 million kilowatts.

According to the calculation that the installed capacity of each unit is 1 million kilowatts, China will start construction of an average of 6 units per year before 2020. According to the above plan, China will usher in the climax of nuclear power construction, and about 40 units are expected to be under construction at the same time during peak hours.

In March 2011, after the Fukushima nuclear power accident in Japan, China conducted a comprehensive safety inspection of existing nuclear facilities. The inspection results showed that China's nuclear power units in operation and under construction basically met China's current nuclear safety regulations and the latest standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Requirements, safety and quality are guaranteed.

But today, due to a variety of reasons, the nuclear reactor originally planned to be launched on the coast has been repeatedly postponed.

The above-mentioned interviewees told the "China Business News" that nuclear power companies are waiting for the state's approval of nuclear power projects. They said that all preparations for the start of nuclear power projects have been sufficient.
